Select a topic – The first step in writing an essay is to pick a topic. Make sure you choose a topic that is of interest to you, and has lots of information about it.

Writing a thesis – A thesis can be defined as a thesis bring an original perspective, as a result of research. Your thesis should be the main focus of your research paper, and all the research that you collect on the paper should focus on this point.

Research – You will gather research that supports your thesis, and build a case that your viewpoint is correct. As a rule of thumb, I usually try to use is to collect at least half as many pages worth of notes than pages that I must write.

Write a draft-After gathering all the research necessary to write the paper the best you can do next is to write an outline. Writing an outline will help you get your thoughts in order, and start to create structure of your research paper.

Write a draft – Write a draft is a good way to start pouring your ideas on paper without worrying about everything being perfect. During this step, you want to write introduction and conclusion paragraphs after writing all the body pieces, because it makes them much easier to write in this way.

Make corrections / Changes – Over the next step you will want to review your rough draft and make any changes or corrections before signing the final copy of your research paper.

Write a Final Copy – In the last step you implement all the changes transforming your rough draft into a finished copy. When you are finished with this step you will want to read about your paper to verify that there are no misspellings or grammatical errors, and that your thesis makes sense.
