The Art of Video Production for Business

Video is a highly effective method of marketing. It has a host of uses, from television to internet and even client meetings; however, the best thing about video is that it allows you to portray the ethos of your company in a manner that no written or spoken word ever could.

When choosing to produce a video for marketing purposes many companies do one of two things. Either they pay a lot of money for a professional company to make the video for them, or they make it themselves.

Option two may seem very appealing; particularly considering the current financial state of affairs. However, the results are usually very amateur which at best, renders the video ineffective and at worst, makes the company appear unprofessional (which subsequently harms their reputation).

The alternative is to invest in video production training. Many people scoff at the idea, believing there is little which can be learnt in a day that they do not already know.

However, while a person could realistically spend years perfecting the art of film-making (and still never actually reach perfection); a great deal can be learnt in a single day.

Getting a few key members of staff (ideally pick staff members with a mixture of talents) together for one day of video production training can mean that by the very next day, you are able to produce a professional, effective and highly interesting promotional film.

But the training is expensive – am I not better off just paying professionals to produce my video?

If you will only ever record one video, then perhaps, yes. But this is unlikely. As your business changes, so will its marketing requirements. A video made today may well become redundant as little as a year later.

At this point you would need to pay for another video to be produced. However, if video production training means you have the talent and knowledge for film-making within your team a second film can be produced in-house; thereby saving vast monetary resources.

As the old saying goes, give a man a fish and he can eat for a day but teach a man to fish…

Are there any other advantages to video production training?

Definitely. Video production training is a fantastic team-building exercise. Not only will your chosen staff members learn a new skill together, but they will get to put the skill into practice and produce the film as a group.

Unlike traditional team building exercises, you staff will learn a new and very valuable skill whilst also having a fantastic finished product to show off as a trophy.

Where can I find somewhere that offers video production training?

The internet is definitely your best bet. There are many companies who offer video production; many less who offer video production training – so you need to weed out the few that do.

Perform an internet search for something like ‘video production Nottingham’. However, in quote marks add “training” onto the end. This is the best way to ensure that the results the search engine brings you include only video production companies that also offer training.
