First time pregnancy
So you’re pregnant for the first time! One of the most memorable times of your life – telling your partner, friends and family is something you will remember for the rest of life. Enjoy this time because being pregnant has its up’s and down’s.
I was lucky with my pregnancy – I had a great family and friends to fall back on. My partner was always supportive and was my shoulder to cry on when things got too much.
Worried about the pregnancy?
Worrying at this time is normal many things will be on your mind. Keep these worries in perspective and talk about them with your partner, don’t bottle these anxieties up. If you don’t feel you can talk to your partner then how about your mum or a good friend? Getting worries out in the open will make you feel better and relieve anxiety.
Preparing for the major life change.
Just how can you prepare I hear you ask? Well planning and taking in how other people coped is a very good idea. What friends have already had children that you can talk to?
First you need to accept that you are not going to be able to do the same things you have done in the past. Your social life is going to suffer, especially in the first 3 to 6 months. After this time you should be more confident about leaving your child with trusted friends and family. Time away for yourself is very important and something you should not forget. This should include time with and without your partner.
The internet is your friend.
There is a wealth of information available on the web – use it. It’s a great way of getting information quickly. Join forums or groups and you will meet pregnant mums who have been through it all and many are only too happy to help. You will be amazed about how much people will help you.
