Natural preventative pet care is not a new thing, but actually is not very common yet. One challenge is to retrain the public to think outside the box. For many years we have been told time and again that the traditional providers of health care that our pets need vaccines every year, drugs to prevent heartworm, fleas and ticks, and croquettes power premium . We heard all these will result in the end the welfare of our pets. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Although still struggling to conquer the mountain “alternative care is too New Age, crystal armed, singing hippies”, our pets are getting sicker than healthy. One of the most difficult problems in the place is super resistant bacteria that are increasingly resistant to traditional use of antibiotics. In particular, the rise of MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus). It is a staph infection antibiotic methicillin can no longer kill. MRSA is transmitted from humans to pets and still mutate into strains from different animal species. Horses have developed their own strain and antibiotics are not the answer! In fact, the overuse of antibiotics, some of the main reasons that these bacteria have mutated and evolved.

Research has already begun looking for ways to stop these virulent bacteria. Researchers at the University of Manchester in England has found that three essential oils are destroyed MRSA! Dr. Peter Warn, who was involved in the research, told the BBC (British Broadcasting Company) in December 2004 when the oils tested in the laboratory, “absolutely nothing grew. Rather than stimulating bacteria and fungi , oils killed them. ”

So why are essential oils proving so effective at killing even the most virulent bacteria such as MRSA? According to Jacqui Stringer, clinical management of complementary therapies at Christie Hospital in Manchester, England, who treat patients with cancer, the reason essential oils are so effective is that they consist of a complex mixture of chemical compounds such as MRSA superbugs are hard to resist. I would add that because these compounds are naturally occurring and derived from plants, “blood” of plants – no two are exactly alike oils provided that the compound is ideal for combating the complex of a super mutating error ! Current treatments, according to Stringer, is individual compounds (antibiotics), so that MRSA becomes resistant very quickly, leaving only 50% success in cases of MRSA. Remember that only a 50/50 chance of survival. Not good odds. Hope comes with this new alternative way to combat these superbugs.
Another benefit of using essential oils for the control and prevention (prevention is the goal of stopping MRSA) spread of MRSA is the application, inhalation, either directly or by spreading them. MRSA is often done inside the nose to inhale the essential oils are all that is needed to keep patients at risk. This makes them very easy to administer to humans and pets.
The biggest obstacle to further development in research with essential oils and combat these superbugs has funded. In January 2005, scientists in Manchester have trouble getting £ 30,000 needed for their research to continue.
